Star Tool Regrinds · Any brand. Any dull tool.
Stop scrapping tools that can be reground 3-5 times.
Any‑brand end mills and drills, sharpened back to original geometry and recoated by Oerlikon Balzers. You see the standard rates before you ship and recycle the carbide after its last use, not its first.
Grinding cutting tools in Wichita, Kansas since 1966. We also make the tools nobody stocks - to your print, no minimums, fast.
Any brand
Big-catalog tools welcome. If it's solid carbide and worth saving, we'll restore it to original geometry.
Published rates
Rates published before you ship, and the price you read is the price you're invoiced.
~50-70%
Typical savings vs. buying new, and most tools can be reground 3 to 5 times.
Ready to ship
if it's listed, it's on the shelfThe end mills machinists actually reorder.
We don’t stock ten thousand SKUs hoping one is close enough. We stock the sizes working shops actually burn through, ground here in Wichita. This page shows what’s on the shelf; when a size sells out, it disappears until we’ve ground more.

A few of the shelf's favorites. The full wall of sizes, flute counts, radii, and coated tools is behind the button. Specs on every card, no PDF safari.
The aluminum & non-ferrous line.
Uncoated on purpose: for aluminum, brass, and plastics, at a price that makes sense for tools you run hard every day.
The everything-else line.
Steels, stainless, titanium, high-temp alloys, coated with TISAFLEX by Oerlikon Balzers (AlTiN/TiSiXN), named right on the label. One coating that covers the hard stuff.
And here's the part no catalog offers: every tool on this shelf regrinds at our published rates, sharpened and recoated by the same hands that ground it the first time. Dull it, send it, run it again.

Dull tools in. Sharp tools out.
Send us your dull tools
Ship them in or drop them off in Wichita. Any brand, no sorting, no minimums.
We inspect & grind
Every tool is inspected and restored to original geometry, recoated through Oerlikon Balzers. Anything that can't be ground comes back to you anyway, unground and uncharged.
Back sharp
Packed safe for shipping. You pay per tool, only for what we ground, at the rates you already read.
No contracts, no minimums, no quote-request black hole. Send dull tools, get sharp tools, pay only for what we ground.
Coated by Oerlikon Balzers
The coating is the half of the tool you can't see. Ours comes from Oerlikon Balzers.
Here’s an open secret in cutting tools: many premium catalog coatings start life in an Oerlikon Balzers chamber, the global leader in PVD tool coatings. The big brands rename it. We don’t. Every regrind we ship and every new Star Tool wears Alcrona EVO or TISAFLEX, and we put the name on the label.
We've seen what comes out of budget coating chambers, and we're not putting it on your tools. Coating quality is invisible right up until your tool life isn't.
Same source as the big names
The regrind that comes back from us carries the same class of coating as the premium tool you bought new, because it comes from the same place. No downgrade, no mystery layer.
Fresh coat, near-new life
A regrind without recoating leaves tool life on the table. Recoated through Balzers, your tool comes back fighting heat and wear like the day it was born.
Named on every label
The label says what's on the tool: Alcrona EVO (AlCrN) or TISAFLEX (AlTiN/TiSiXN), not a made-up trade name. You'll always know exactly what you're running.
New tools, the Star Tool way
The tool you actually need isn't in anyone's catalog? Good. We'll make it.
Catalogs stock thousands of tools hoping one is close enough. We work the other way: send a print (or the part, or a sample tool) and we grind exactly what the job calls for.
A grinder reads it
Send the print. The person quoting it is the person who can grind it, and the quote comes back in writing.
To your print
Step drills, reamers, dovetails, keyseats, tapers, lollipops, form tools, lens cutters, all ground here in Wichita, not ordered from somewhere.
No minimums
One tool is a real order.
Specials, one at a time
To your print · or your sample
The weird one. The job-saver. The geometry no catalog carries. Send us the print, and we'll make it right, quickly, with Balzers coating if the application calls for it.

Blanket orders · scheduled releases
Run the same special every month? Put it on a blanket order: your geometry lives in our system, releases ship on your schedule, and reordering is a PO number, not a project. You get production-run pricing without stocking a thing. This is how our longest customers buy.

Every custom joins the regrind program
Every tool we make can come back through our regrind program, reground to its exact original geometry by the shop that ground it the first time, at your price-sheet rate. A Star Tool special is an asset with a service plan.
See regrind rates →Your scrap bin is full of money. Send us the dullest batch you've got.
No contracts, no minimums, no risk. If a tool isn’t worth regrinding, we’ll say so and send it back unground, you don’t pay a dime. If it is, it ships back sharp at rates you read before you ship. Got a print nobody can quote? We’d love to see it.
